Does it also include the tiny screws that are needed to attach them to the case? Where can you find such screws? (I've got a drive that didn't come with screws, and I have no idea where to get these screws from, so it's not very usable.)

No idea why SATA3 is even mentioned in this article as SATA1 is more than fast enough and some of the portable Blu-Ray burners use USB2

Many of the popular LG drives at Newegg are now gone and may never return

    Too bad
With the new extortionware (COMING SOON TO AN INTERNET NEAR YOU!) you can no longer trust hard drive backups without a write protect switch and SSD's are not a long term solution

    Tape? LOL

Some of the Panasonic Blu-Ray burners are M-Disc compatible based on the Verbatim compatibility chart but this one is too new

The LG burner "LG Ultra Slim BD DVDRW BU40N 6X SATA 9.5mm Tray Bare" @ Newegg is compatible with M-Disc and has a 4MB cache ($85 with discount code)

    What are you talking about?

He is referring to the fact that backups on non-read-and-append-only media are just as vulnerable to cryptolocker type malware as your main device.
It doesn't matter if you backup to external USB drives or backup to a NAS, vulnerabilities can be found.
Only read-and-append-only media is truly safe from alteration (but not from physical destruction, of course). Optical discs are the only such media we have.

Why would Silverstone release a tray-loading slim ODD when many of their cases only support slot loading?

    Pretty disappointed TBH.
  • meacupla - Monday, August 21, 2017 - link

Yeah, that was my thought too.
Although, their newer cases, like ML-08, ML-09 and RVZ-02 are compatable with tray loading ODDs.

Hmm optical media...makes me feel nostalgic.

Is it actually possible to watch blu-ray content on a PC these days? The last I heard it was such a technical nightmare it was not worth the money and trouble to try. Solve for that and I would buy a couple of drives for sure.

It takes a special kind of dumb-dumb to not be able to play Blu-Ray movies on their computers in 2017. It's easy enough and enjoyable too. It just sucks that in order to play 4K content we need new drives and to upgrade our CPUs.

I've had a BD drive in my PC for some years now. Never had a BD disk in it. Just cant be bothered. Also my TV etc. is just 5-6 feet from my PC so why would I? Though I just find streaming much more convenient.

Great, that's your choice / situation. Not everyone feels the same way.
