Dell Kills 7-inch Streak Tablet
by Andrew Cunningham on December 5, 2011 9:00 PM ESTDell has discontinued its 7" Streak tablet in the United States, the bigger brother of the 5" Streak that it discontinued earlier this year - the official product page for the Honeycomb-powered tablet now says that the product is no longer available online. Dell will continue to sell the Streak in China and other markets.
Dell's decision to take the Streak off the market comes after middling reviews, slow sales, and competition not just from full-featured 7" tablets like the Galaxy Tab, but also low-cost specialized devices like Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet and Amazon's Kindle Fire. At this point, Dell appears to be pulling out of the Android tablet business in the US, perhaps waiting to see how Windows 8 behaves on such devices before jumping back into the market.
The Streak 7 is still available on some retail sites (like Staples, where it goes for $279 without a contract), but expect those listings to disappear as inventories dry up. Dell hasn't issued an update for the 5" Streak since discontinuing it, so if you get a good deal on its bigger brother in the next few weeks you can probably expect a similar lack of official software updates in the future.

As I have repeatedly pointed out, even the best is pure crap. I was reading an article on my iDevice, and safari crashed no less than 3 times in that article. Here: try it yourself:http://www.safehaven.com/article/23510/kondratiev-...
Now if the best cant even render properly and has proven repeatedly to be an underpowered piece of trash, just IMAGINE how badly the user experience is on one of these tablets. lol. ugh. People are stupid for spending money on this junk. Myself included. These things are nowhere near desktop replacements, even for the most novice of web surfers.

I agree that tablets and phones are not (and never will be) replacements for desktop devices --- based, if nothing else, on input modalities and screen size.Having said that, I opened the page you reference on my iPhone4 running iOS 5.01 and had zero problems with it. As a general principle, I've had Safari on iOS crash as frequently (ie infrequently) as desktop browsers. There are plenty of things to criticize in iOS, but "Safari crashes frequently" is, in my experience, not one of them.

Personally I never have browsers or anything crash on PCs, but stuff crashes all the time in iOS.I mean it's handy in that it fits in your pocket, but even something as simple as checking a forum post in an email and responding becomes a gigantic ordeal on iOS, so I don't even bother anymore.
Regarding the Streak...I actually didn't know Dell HAD a product like this...they'd be one of my first choices were I going to buy one, and...I didn't know they were selling them. Which can't be good, given I'm more plugged in to this stuff than the average consumer!

I went ahead and loaded that article as well on my first generation iPad, no problems at all and the iPad 1 is the most underpowered of the the recent devices with it's small RAM.Makes me wonder, is your iDevice maybe an iPhone 3G or a second generation iPad touch? You didn't specify your device but if it load fine on a iPad 1 you pretty much need to have an even weaker device for there to be problems...

I got a good price this spring for the 5" Dell. It's ok with 2.2.2, I've just change the ugly Dell launcher. This 7" has a low resolution if I remember well, but it has a standard Tegra 2, so hopefully someone will put 4.0 (CM9?) on it sometimes... It's all depending of the price.
